Catch were approached by the people behind the Greatest Fan brand to design and produce an online quiz game designed to be rolled out to football clubs in the UK Premier League. GreatestFan.co.uk gives users the chance to put their football club knowledge to the test. A monthly league table shows who's top of the league, whilst the top three greatest fans appear on the official football club website.
Catch worked closely with JMH Publishing to design and develop the technology allowing registration, signup, and mobile payment gateway integration. This stable platform was designed to be a pure white-label offering, it is designed to be "skinned" for multiple clubs.
Users register their details to take part in the quiz and text a premium rate number to unlock the quiz. This model is attractive for the publisher as the revenue stream coming from the mobile payment and attractive for the club as it grows their fan specific database.
The real killer hook for the fans is the potential to get their name listed on the club's homepage. Catch developed the technology for the clubs to be able to automatically pull through the top 3 players and display their names on their homepage - when you consider that the official Middlesbrough FC site gets over 1m unique visitors a month, that's real kudos indeed for any football fan.
Initially the concept was trialled for Southend to prove its worth, it was then picked up by Middlesbrough.
Within it's first week of going live fans rushed to be labelled "Middlesbrough's Greatest Fan" and the site was featured on the homepage of Middlesbrough FC's official website.
The site was also a featured site on killerstartups.com who picked up on the sites unique ability to "hook you up with local celebrity status on the Middlesbrough official website if you're one of the top three quiz scorers."
