Objective

Haymarket approached Catch after we provided the technology powering the Excellence Awards 2007. Campaign, in print since 1968, is Haymarket's weekly magazine for the advertising and communications industry. For 2008 the magazine revealed its new awards for advertising and communications will unite four of its existing prize schemes, and also cover TV and radio.

A multi-disciplinary competition, the Campaign Big Awards is based on product categories to reflect how contemporary marketers work for clients. Nigel Bogle, group chief executive at advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, chairs the awards.

The entry process needed to be entirely managed online, with entrants registering, uploading, and paying for their entries via the BIG awards site. This system also needed to interface with Haymarket's existing invoicing and accountancy system. The entries then needed to be judged online, over 70 judges including Mark Cridge, Trevor Beattie and Rory Sutherland needed to view and ultimately score the entries.

Solution

With over 1000 entries expected, stability of the platform was key. We created wireframe prototypes of the entry process, constantly refining and streamlining the process until we had created the most user friendly route through entry to payment, while fully integrating Haymarket's existing invoicing systems. A range of data formats, including PDF, MP3 and MOV can be uploaded with ease along with associated campaign information.

Alongside the entry application, we built the judging application to allow the 70 judges segmented access to their specific media channel entrants, with reports sent back to the judging panel heads. The judges can browse through the entries, viewing and scoring the creative work online, be it streaming a TV commercial, listening to a radio advert or viewing a full integrated campaign.

Alongside the entry and judging application, we built the Campaign BIG Awards website to build interest and create awareness of these new awards themselves, working in conjunction with print ads devised by above-the-line agency BBH.

The build was large and complex, built over a three month period we delivered on time and on budget.

Result

Our system enabled a smooth entry, payment and judging process for over 1500 entries, 50% more than initially forecast - a resounding success!. Catch continue to work with Haymarket and will be providing the platform for forthcoming events.

The awards ceremony itself is on October 22 2008, at Grosvenor House.
