Objective

Continuting our relationship with Barworks, this website needed to give the visitor a taste of the a unique experience The Slaughtered Lamb Pub & Bar in Clerkenwell had to offer. Creatively the site was to draw from The Slaughtered Lamb's name as well as a feeling of a dark fantasy underworld, reflecting their unique basement space.

The Approach

Using hand drawn illustrations, separate rooms were created to showcase each section on the website, each pulling you deeper into a fantasy land. We breathed life into the website by moving the user in and out of the different rooms. The movement is cleverly calculated depending on what room you are in and which one you need to get to. Each room of the site has its own whimsical illustrations that include elements from the pub that are instantly recognisable, but are presented in the talented Emily Woodard's own instantly recognisable style.

The site was developed on Wordpress and uses the JQuery JavaScript library to generate the movement, whizzing the user up and down on navigation presses. If you keep your eyes on the screen you may see some illustrative easter eggs in-between rooms.

To lower the initial page load, content within sections is loaded via AJAX when needed. The site uses the commercially available font GoodDog for font-embedding to render text in a hand-written style that compliments the illustrative style.

The customised Wordpress installation provides content management to the client enabling them to manage the Events and Menus on the website. The gallery leverages the Flickr API and pulls images straight off The Slaughtered Lambs Flickr photo set. The essential's of data collection and an automated contact system on the contact page provide a solid platform for the client to communicate with its patrons.

The Approach

The site went live w/c 17th May 2010, so we’re looking forward to the feedback. We are currently in production for Soho’s Two Floors and Shoreditch’s Electricity Showrooms. In the meantime you can visit www.barworks.com to see their suite of bars and restaurants.
